Savings Bank of Danbury's Matching Donation Program Provides More Than $96,000 to Assist Local Food Pantries and Other Non-profit Organizations During Pandemic

DANBURY, CT, ISSUED JULY 23, 2020…Between a newly-formed “Matching Donation” program and other contributions, The Savings Bank of Danbury (http://sbdanbury.com)  recently provided more than $96,000 to assist local food pantries and other non-profit organizations during the past several months.

The Savings Bank of Danbury Matching Donation program for two local food pantries, which was initiated in June, provided over $40,000 in donations.  The matching gift program enabled these food pantries to assist struggling families in the region currently dealing with food insecurity as a result of the pandemic.

Employees, Corporators, Directors and Advisory Board Members contributed to the Savings Bank of Danbury’s $1 to $1 matching program that provided $42,547 in donations to the Daily Bread Food Pantry in Danbury, CT and the Connecticut Food Bank in Wallingford, CT.

The Bank also contributed an additional $53,713 to other local non-profit organizations including, Waterbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital, The New American Dream Foundation, Hillside Food Outreach, Connecticut Community Care, Western Connecticut University Foundation/COVID-19, Foundations of Nuvance Health, Saint Mary’s Hospital Foundation, United Way of Western Connecticut and the United Way of Greater Waterbury. These donations resulted in contributions totaling over $96,000.

“It is impossible to express how grateful we are to Savings Bank of Danbury for rallying around Daily Bread during this incredibly challenging time,” said Debbie Landzberg, Board President for Daily Bread Food Pantry. “We have served an average of 200 households twice weekly for several months – three times our pre-COVID-19 client numbers.”

“I am incredibly proud of the outpouring of generosity that was shown by our Savings Bank of Danbury family,” said Martin G. Morgado, President and Chief Executive Officer.  “These have been challenging times for all of us and yet our people were able to see others in the community with immediate needs and lend a helping hand. I am grateful to everyone who stepped up and participated in this community program.”
